October is breast cancer awareness month and with it comes a slew of “pinkified” products designed to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise funds that go toward breast cancer research.
I’m all for any movement that helps save women’s lives while promoting women’s health and wellness. Here are three products that are both on-trend in the fitness industry and on task with raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
I’m a fan of yoga and a fan of this pretty mat with its pink-ribbon design. According to the Gaiam website, $1 from each sale of these standard-thickness (3mm) mats will be donated to The Breast Cancer Foundation to help fund breast cancer research.
Like with any good yoga mat, it's got “grip” to it, so you don’t slide around during Down Dog, the Warriors or any other pose. It might be time for me to update my yoga mat, and I’ve got my eye on this one.

There’s the product line – a collection of attractive fitness shoes (I’m partial to the New Balance 860 women’s walking shoe because, well, I’m a sucker for that pink/silver combo.)
In addition to product development, New Balance is a contributor to charity fitness events. For example, this company is a national sponsor of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure™.
It’s nice to see fitness companies showing up for a good cause and also promoting women’s health and wellness through physical activity - in October to support breast cancer awareness month and throughout the year.
